History

The Double K Retreat Center began as Kamp Kachess, a rustic lodge located about ten miles east of Snoqualmie Pass on Interstate 90 east of Seattle.  Pastor Wilbur Skaggs, who was serving the Woodland Park Church of God in Seattle at the time, felt a passion to help young teenage boys who were in trouble.  With the help of friends and the Church of God of Western Washington, he purchased the property and created a home for troubled boys supervised by caring Christians.  As the work grew, Pastor Skaggs and the camp’s Board of Trustees felt the need to expand this work with boys to a larger space with more appropriately designed facilities.

In the early 1970’s the opportunity came to purchase acreage ten miles further east outside of Easton, Washington.  The church in Western Washington rallied to the cause and construction efforts produced McKee Lodge, Warn and Bishop dormitories.  Existing buildings on what had been a small ranch served to complete the set of buildings needed to move the boys home to what became Double K Ranch.

When circumstances in the state of Washington forced the boys ranch to cease operations in the late 1980’s the leadership of the Western Washington Association of the Church of God invited the Inland Empire Association of the Church of God, comprised of churches in eastern Washington and northern Idaho, to join with Western Washington to form the Pacific Northwest Association of the Church of God [PNA] and jointly assume the ownership of the Double K Ranch, including its debts, as a site for youth camps and family camp.  Both districts came to see that the Double K site could serve as a common meeting ground for their several camp and retreat activities.

Since that time the PNA has used what is now known as the Double K Retreat and Adventure Center for countless camps and retreats.  Over the years the leadership of the Double K has found it to be good stewardship of this God-given resource to rent the facilities to other church groups and non-profit Christian groups as well so that they may also enjoy the benefits of these beautiful grounds for the spiritual encouragement of their participants.
